Focus areas for awards include the intersection of food, water and energy.

The new "STEM Training for Actionable Research and Global Impact" award through the National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT) program integrates interdisciplinary research with classroom teaching. One example is the WeCareSolar project managed by Laura Stachel, which focuses on bringing power sources that can save lives to Africa.
