Powerful winds of two giant stars collide

This graphic shows a time sequence of VLBA images of the wind collision region, superimposed on an artist's diagram of the Wolf-Rayet star (WR) orbiting its giant companion (O). The Wolf-Rayet star will soon explode as a supernova.
