President Bush Honors Excellence in Mentoring
Nine individuals, five organizations cited for broadening opportunities

Nine individuals and five organizations received the 2004 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring on May 16 at the White House's Eisenhower Executive Office Building. It is the 10th anniversary of the award. The group also met briefly with President Bush as part of the festivities. Seated in the bottom row (left to right) are: Elizabeth Yanik, Emporia State University, Kansas; Judith Richardson Vergun, representing the Native Americans in Marine and Space Sciences Program, Oregon State University; Barbara Burke, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; Lenore Blum, Carnegie Mellon University; Judith Alexis Brown, representing the Miami Museum of Science, Inc.; Marigold Linton, President, Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science; and Elizabeth Mark Marincola, representing the American Society for Cell Biology.
