Hurricane Seasons Are More Active

Study examined evidence of hurricanes going back 1,500 years, identified factors that contribute to more active hurricane seasons

The light areas are composed primarily of sand from beaches and sand bars on the ocean that was swept up by a very large storm and then deposited in the laguna. An interview with Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University and the lead author of a paper in the August 13, 2009 edition of the journal Nature. Mann and his colleagues studied sediment cores and statistical models to show that hurricane activity has increased in recent decades to a level not seen in over 1,000 years.
