Purdue University to Operate the Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation

The University at Buffalo shake table, a NEES facility, tested a home's wood-frame construction.

One facility in NSF's Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) is the indoor "shake table" at the State University of New York at Buffalo, where a two-story single-family home was shaken in benchmark testing for the NEESWood research project. The test revealed that wood-frame structures constructed under current building standards may provide safety in an earthquake similar to the 1994 Northridge earthquake in California, but the structures are likely to be damaged so severely that they will require expensive repairs.
