Two of the largest areas where research is collaborated is the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland combined statistical area (CSA) and the New York-Newark-Bridgeport CSA. In these two areas alone, companies performed at least $29.3 billion of R&D, according to a recent National Science Foundation (NSF) report.
