Special note regarding this program

May 8, 2009

The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) will be issuing their own separate Minority Postdoctoral Research Fellowships and Follow-up Research Starter Grants solicitation for the 2009 competition and beyond. The intent is to have this new solicitation published on the NSF web site on or before July 31st, 2009. In the interim, please do not use NSF 06-586 for guidance in creating your proposals.

Applications for postdoctoral research fellowships in biology will be accepted under the broadening participation theme of the existing program soliticitation NSF 07-580, Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology  (PRFB) (currently under revision) http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=12720&org=DBI&from=home

The U.S. National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2023 budget of $9.5 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
