Lehigh Helps Open First-of-its Kind, Space-age Education/Research Facility at Local Middle School
May 21, 2010
Responding to the trend that American K-12 students lag behind their international peers in science and math, Lehigh University has joined with a nearby school district to fashion a unique, hands-on approach to the problem--the Dr. John A. McAdams Jr. Space Center. The Space Center is believed to be the only such educational/research facility at this level anywhere in the country.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2017, its budget is $7.5 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 48,000 competitive proposals for funding and makes about 12,000 new funding awards.
