Smart foam takes aim at concussions by measuring helmet impact
November 5, 2013
Combining nanotechnology with foam, Brigham Young University student Jake Merrell has created a smart foam that can be placed inside a football helmet to measure the impact of each hit. When compressed, the self-powered foam generates electrical signals that are transmitted wirelessly to a tablet or computer in the hands of a coach or trainer.
