Panda habitat shrinking, becoming more fragmented

Using remote sensing data, Chinese and U.S. scientists have re-assessed the conservation status of the giant panda. Their analysis shows that while panda numbers are increasing, their habitat still covers less area and is more fragmented than it was in 1988, when the species was listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List.
