No Caps on Submissions to BIO Core Solicitations

May 7, 2019

In November 2018, BIO eliminated its previous cap on submissions. Investigators can now submit as many unique proposals as they wish, at any time, in accordance with our no deadline core solicitation NSF 18-585.

MCB welcomes PIs to submit more than one project for consideration. We hope this change enables PIs to take more risks in the proposals they submit, without fear of having only one opportunity to seek funding per year.  Read a full statement on the decision from BIO Assistant Director Joanne Tornow in her post on the Bio BUZZ blog. As always, if you have any questions please contact one of our Program Directors.

The U.S. National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2020 budget of $8.3 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
