Caption: Trypanosoma cruzi is the insect that transmits Chagas' disease and the parasite that causes it Chagas' disease is caused by a parasite transmitted to animals and humans by this insect, a triatomid. Many people who live in homes such as these have uninvited guests: insects that transmit Chagas' disease that live in the floors, walls and roofs of these types of houses. Living conditions similar to these in Tonchigue, in the Province of Esemeraldas on the north Pacific coast of Ecuador, are found throughout the country.
