From 1962 to 1968 Space research received an average annual increase of 23% of the Federal R&D budget compared to around 7% for all other research From 1973 to 1979 Energy research received an average annual increase of 27% of the Federal R&D budget compared to around -1% for all other research From 1979 to 1985 Defense research received an average annual increase of 7% of the Federal R&D budget compared to around -2% for all other research From 1995 to 2001 Health research received an average annual increase of 5% compared to around 1% for all other research
