NSF & Congress

The Office of Legislative and Public Affairs' Congressional Team is the principal point of contact between Congress and NSF. We coordinate requests for information, coordinate NSF officials' appearances at Congressional hearings, ensure timely responses to congressionally mandated reports and correspondence, arrange meetings with Members of Congress and their staff, and arrange site visits to NSF-supported facilities.

FY 2025 Budget Request

On March 11, 2024, the Biden-Harris Administration released the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Request to Congress, which firmly supports NSF's mission to advance the frontiers of U.S. science and technology progress.

On December 6, 2022, NSF hosted an all-interested Congressional staff briefing to highlight the breadth of NSF-funded research in advanced manufacturing and the innovations made possible by investments in basic science. Congresswoman Haley Stevens (MI-11) sponsored the briefing and provided opening remarks. Dr. Susan Margulies, Assistant Director of NSF’s Directorate for Engineering, delivered remarks on behalf of NSF and moderated a panel of 4 NSF-supported researchers. Hill staff engaged with the researchers during an interactive showcase to learn about NSF-funded projects that support next generation manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, improving worker safety and well-being, and training a diverse STEM workforce.

NSF State Fact Sheets
These brief summaries include the total amount of awards to institutions within a state, some of the state's institutions receiving the awards, and examples of projects currently funded in the state.

Awards Abstract Database
Information about research projects that NSF has funded since 1989 can be found by searching the Awards Abstract Database. The information includes abstracts that describe the research, and names of principal investigators and their institutions. The database includes both completed and in-process research.

Budget Internet Information System (BIIS)
The BIIS Award Summary by State/Institution provides statistical and related funding information including summaries of awards by state, awardee institution and NSF directorate. You can view the amount of awards to a state and its institutions for a particular fiscal year.

NSF by the Numbers
The NSF by the Numbers Dashboard provides statistical and funding information for awards funded, institutions funded, funding rates, proposals evaluated, and award obligations by fiscal year.
