Thomas Baird is a molecular biologist trained in the fields of mRNA translation and decay. Baird earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Indiana University, a M.S. in marine biology from the College of Charleston, and a B.A. in biology from Franklin College. He has experience working within foreign and domestic government agencies, including the Kuji City Municipal Board of Education in Japan, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Charleston, SC, and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Baird is a champion of funding basic science research, particularly as it relates to a better understanding of complex biological systems.
