Dr. Maria G. Carranza is a chemist and recognized higher education professional with over ten years of private and public experience and a track record of successfully unlocking STEM pathways for hundreds of ethnically, culturally and socioeconomically diverse students across the U.S. She earned a B.S. and Licentiate in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Baylor University. Her graduate and postdoctoral work was focused on the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of small molecules as potential therapeutic agents for central nervous system disorders and cancer. She is passionate about technology, convergence research, cross-sector collaborations, and committed to building a fully diverse, inclusive, highly-skilled, 21st-century workforce in STEM.
