Michelle McCrackin

Dr. Michelle McCrackin
National Science Board Office
Class of 2019-2020

Dr. Michelle McCrackin joins NSF as a 2019-2020 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the National Science Board Office. Michelle received her Ph.D. in Biology from Arizona State University. Her research focuses on nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) pollution from agriculture, sewage wastewater, and fossil fuel combustion; excess nutrients degrade surface waters globally. She also holds an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan and worked in corporate finance before pursuing a career in science.

Before becoming a Fellow, Michelle lived in Sweden, where she had the opportunity to develop her science policy and outreach skills. She was a researcher and founding member of a boundary-spanning organization based at Stockholm University's Baltic Sea Centre. Here, she communicated scientific knowledge about the environment of the Baltic Sea to international decision-makers. Michelle is excited to apply and build on the skills and experiences gained in Europe and the business sector to contribute to the mission of NSF.
