Colin Thomas is joining NSF as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the Office of Information and Resource Management’s Division of Human Resource Management (OIRM/HRM). He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Yale and a B.S. in Archaeology from the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse. As a 2019-2020 STPF fellow Colin is supporting work on improving communication between NSF and academia.

His graduate work focused on a ca A.D. 1400 copper smelting site on the north coast of Peru. He used a variety of multidisciplinary techniques to develop the technical understanding of pre-Columbian smelting technology and use that improved understanding as a window into the social, religious, and political lives of the smelters themselves.
