Faye-Marie Vassel is a native of NYC and received her B.S. from SUNY Stony Brook University where she studied biochemistry and Russian studies. Faye-Marie received her Ph. D. in cancer biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her doctoral research was centered on better elucidating mechanisms of chemotherapeutic resistance in drug-resistant lung cancer. Faye-Marie joins the NSF as a 2019-2020 AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow in the Division of the Evaluation Core Research ( ECR) program that spans all four divisions of the Education and Human Resources ( EHR) directorate. During her fellowship in the Evaluation Core Research ( ECR) program Faye-Marie will work as a evaluability and research synthesis fellow. From early on, Faye-Marie has been passionate about helping to solve society's issues of access to quality and equitable educational opportunities. This commitment has propelled her desire to pursue a AAAS STP fellowship. She strongly believes doing so will better prepare her for a career path focused on designing and impacting pedagogical policies and practices centered on reducing the educational disparities present in the STEM education K-12 pipeline.
