Office of Emerging Frontiers and Multidisciplinary Activities
Class of 2019-2020

Tammy Wilbert is a 2019-2020 AAAS S&TP Fellow supporting the Office of Emerging Frontiers and Multidisciplinary Activities (EFMA) in the Directorate for Engineering. She completed a BS in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at University of Maryland Baltimore County and a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Policy at George Mason University. Working with researchers at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, her pre- and post-doctoral studies focused on genetic analysis of endangered species, with a view to understand the impact of land management practices on genetic variation and species’ survival. Tammy has designed and taught hands-on science education classes at multiple levels – from middle school children to professionals – for over 10 years, including 2 years as an NSF GK-12 fellow. She strongly believes in the importance of community outreach, science communication, and STEM equity and inclusion. Tammy will be supporting EFMA’s programs that promote cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research, mentoring, and increasing the societal impact of research. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, traveling, hiking, and spending time with her family and 2 dogs.
