The following set of questions and answers refer to frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the CHE-DRP Solicitation. They are not intended to be a modification of the Program Solicitation. If there are any inconsistencies between the Program Solicitation and these FAQs, the information in the Program Solicitation prevails.

1. My proposal is not a revision. Do I need to submit a revision statement?
2. I am submitting a proposal under the RUI solicitation. Do I still have to submit a revision statement and expanded statement of Current and Pending Support?
3. The standard NSF format for Current and Pending Support does not allow for the inclusion of additional information. What should I do?
4. My proposal is a resubmission. In some divisions, explicit discussion of the revisions in the body of the proposal is required. Should I include it?
5. I am serving as the PI on a proposal. Can I be listed as co-PI on another proposal to the Chemistry Division solicitation if I am not requesting any salary support on the second proposal?
6. I am serving as the PI on a proposal. Can I be listed as Senior Personnel (provide a biographical sketch but not ask for salary) on another proposal to the Chemistry Division solicitation?
7. I am serving as the PI on a proposal. Can I be an unfunded collaborator (no biographical sketch, no salary request, no student or other support, but a letter of collaboration) on another proposal?
8. Could my students get paid on a collaborative project if I am a non-paid collaborator on a second submission?
9. One of my pending proposals is clearly unrelated to this proposal as evident from the title. Is it enough to say, "No overlap"?
10. My proposal is a renewal. In the revision statement, do I need to discuss how it is different from my earlier award?
11. Are submissions under the CDS&E and D3SC opportunities counted against the 1-proposal limit?
12. If my proposal was submitted to another division and was transferred to the Chemistry Division, would it count against my submission limit?
13. Would providing consulting services on one proposal (as a subaward) prevent me from submitting a separate proposal?
14. What should I do if my question is not addressed by these FAQs?

1. My proposal is not a revision. Do I need to submit a revision statement?

   Yes. You must submit a document with a statement to that effect. A statement such as "the proposal has not been considered previously by the NSF" would be sufficient.

2. I am submitting a proposal under the RUI solicitation. Do I still have to submit a revision statement and expanded statement of Current and Pending Support?

   Yes. RUI proposals also need to conform to Divisional submission requirements.

3. The standard NSF format for Current and Pending Support does not allow for the inclusion of additional information. What should I do?

   You can create your own form as long as it provides all the information required by NSF.

4. My proposal is a resubmission. In some divisions, explicit discussion of the revisions in the body of the proposal is required. Should I include it?

   This is up to you. If you include it, the information should go into the single-copy revision document.

5. I am serving as the PI on a proposal. Can I be listed as co-PI on another proposal to the Chemistry Division solicitation if I am not requesting any salary support on the second proposal?

   No. You cannot be listed as a co-PI on a second CHE-DRP proposal in the same fiscal year.

6. I am serving as the PI on a proposal. Can I be listed as Senior Personnel (provide a biographical sketch but not ask for salary) on another proposal to the Chemistry Division solicitation?

   No. You can be PI/co-PI/Senior Personnel on only one proposal in a given fiscal year.

7. I am serving as the PI on a proposal. Can I be an unfunded collaborator (no biographical sketch, no salary request, no student or other support, but a letter of collaboration) on another proposal?

   Yes.

8. Could my students get paid on a collaborative project if I am a non-paid collaborator on a second submission?

   No. If you are planning to supervise a student working on an award, you should be a co-PI or Senior Personnel.

9. One of my pending proposals is clearly unrelated to this proposal as evident from the title. Is it enough to say, "No overlap"?

   Even if there is no overlap, please do provide a brief description (one or more sentences) on the topic of the other proposal or award.

10. My proposal is a renewal. In the revision statement, do I need to discuss how it is different from my earlier award?

    No. Results from Prior NSF Support are required in the Project Description. If this is not your first attempt at a renewal, you should discuss how the proposal was revised from the previous submission.

11. Are submissions under the CDS&E and D3SC opportunities counted against the 1-proposal limit?

    Yes. Submissions to the CDS&E and D3SC programs are counted against the one-proposal limit. Proposals to the following mechanisms or solicitations are not counted against the limit: EAGER, RAPID, RAISE, CAREER, conferences, and supplemental funding requests.

12. If my proposal was submitted to another division and was transferred to the Chemistry Division, would it count against my submission limit?

    The Chemistry Division will not accept a transfer of a proposal from another division if you already have a proposal pending under the CHE-DRP (Disciplinary Research Programs) solicitation.

13. Would providing consulting services on one proposal (as a subaward) prevent me from submitting a separate proposal?

    Yes. If you receive salary support through an award or subaward, you are considered "Senior Personnel."
