NSF LOGO Computer Simulation of Ultrasound Imaging

Caption: Computer Simulation of Coronary Arteries Intravascular ultrasound imaging is a relatively new technique for viewing the interior structure of arteries. This image shows a three-dimensional reconstruction of an artery from two-dimensional ultrasound cross- sections sampled at different places along the artery. Reconstructions can show the artery's behavior throughout the heartbeat cycle from a variety of viewing points -- even from inside the artery itself. The Science and Technology Center for Computer Graphics and Scientific Visualization uses images such as these in multi-site seminars conducted over high-speed computer network lines.
