Gisèle Muller-Parker joined NSF as Program Director for the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) in October 2008. She holds degrees from SUNY at Stony Brook, the University of Delaware, and the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1990 she joined the Western Washington University faculty and was Professor of Biology from 1990 to 2010, and Assistant Director of Shannon Point Marine Center from 2006-2008. In 2003-2004 she served as Interim Chair of the Biology Department. She is author of over 50 scholarly articles in her field of marine biology (algal symbiosis).
Her service to graduate education includes advising over 25 MS graduate students, service on institutional graduate committees, and her current work as lead Program Director of the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) in the Division of Graduate Education. Her scholarly interests include study of the history of the GRFP with respect to changes in its policies and goals over its 65 year existence.
