AAAS Fellow

Dr. Ibrahim Mohedas is a AAAS S&TP Fellow placed at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Convergence Accelerator. He is interested in the development and translation of research into society and how scientists and designers can utilize techniques from the social sciences to develop products that tackle large-scale societal needs.

Dr. Mohedas completed his BS in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and earned an MS and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. His doctoral research revolved around the use of ethnographic methods during the design process to better understand stakeholders and develop more usable products. He specifically focused on how novices become experts when using these tools/techniques and how they can be particularly useful when applied to the development of medical devices in low- and middle-income nations. As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Mohedas pursued the development and translation of a medical device he developed for rural Ethiopia that assists with contraceptive implant insertion.
