Biography:

Dr. Paul A. Lane is a Program Director for Electronic and Photonic Materials in the Division of Materials Research (DMR), managing the interdisciplinary materials research programs including organic and hybrid semiconductors, photonic materials, and materials for optoelectronics and energy applications. He joined the National Science Foundation in March 2018.

Dr. Lane earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics from Iowa State University. Following post-doctoral research at the University of Utah, he joined the faculty of the Physics Department at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. In 2003, he joined the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Optical Sciences Division, where he studied the photophysics of organic semiconductors and their applications to opto-electronic devices such as light-emitting diodes, solar cells, and sensors.

Dr. Lane is a co-author on over one hundred refereed papers published in archival journals and conference proceedings. He has written ten chapters and is a named co-inventor on two U.S. patents. He has presented over 100 seminars and conference presentations. Dr. Lane is a Fellow of the SPIE and a member of the Optical Society of America. He chairs the SPIE Conference on Organic, Hybrid, and Perovskite Photovoltaics.
