Advanced Manufacturing (AM)
Kevin Chou joined the NSF (as an IPA) from University of Louisville, where he is the Edward R. Clark Chair of Advanced Manufacturing and served as the Director of the Additive Manufacturing Institute of Science and Technology (Jan. 2019 – Apr. 2020). He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University and post-doc training from National Institute of Standards and Technology. Dr. Chou is a Fellow of ASME, for which he led the Technical Program of its International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference in 2011 and served as the Chair of its Manufacturing Engineering Division (Jan. 2018 – Jun. 2019). From 2014 – 2015, Dr. Chou served as the Assistant Director for Technology in the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, supporting the Manufacturing USA Program.
Dr. Chou’s broad interest in manufacturing ranges from traditional processes to emerging technologies and includes such fields as mechanics, transport phenomena, design, materials, metrology and tribology, etc., in an integrated manner to discover the fundamentals of manufacturing science and unlock the potential of manufacturing innovations.
