Business and Industry R&D
This series reviews trends in research and development activities of the U.S. business sector. These data are collected in the Business Enterprise Research and Development Survey (BERD) for 2019 and subsequent years for businesses with 10 or more employees and in the Annual Business Survey (ABS) for 2017 and subsequent years for businesses with 1–9 employees. Prior to BERD and ABS, these data were collected by the predecessor surveys: Business Research and Development Survey (BRDS) (2017–18), Business R&D and Innovation Survey (BRDIS) (2008–16), Survey of Industrial Research and Development (SIRD) (1953–2007), and the Microbusiness R&D and Innovation Survey (BRDI-M) (2016).
