NSF Developer Resources

NSF is committed to the goals of the Digital Government Strategy: to enable the American people to access high-quality digital government information and services anywhere, anytime, on any device; to ensure the procurement and management of devices, applications, and data in smart, secure and affordable ways; and to unlock the power of government data to spur innovation across our Nation and improve the quality of government services.

In alignment with these goals, NSF aims to connect developers with agency data and resources, so that NSF information can be adapted for new purposes. NSF's Developer Resources provides access to featured NSF data and web services. This page will be updated as NSF makes available new developer tools and data resources.

NSF Open Data

View and access NSF's datasets on our agency Open Government page, or via Data.gov.

NSF APIs

NSF Award Search Web API (ASWA). This web API provides an interface to the Research Spending and Results (RS&R) functionality available through NSF's Research.gov system. The award search data demonstrates how federal research dollars are being spent, what research is being performed, and how the outcomes of research are benefiting society as a whole.

NSF GRFP Awardees and Honorable Mentions (2000-2012). NSF's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based masters or doctoral degrees in disciplines relevant to the mission of the Foundation. This dataset includes GRFP Awardees and Honorable Mention recipients for 2000 to 2012.

NSF Funding Rate History API. This web API contains FY 2001-FY 2011 NSF funding rates for competitive research proposals by organizational unit. The funding rate is calculated by dividing the number of awards by the number of awards and declines.
