NSF Director Arden L. Bement, Jr., and Acting Depurty Director Cora B. Marrett bookend the 2008 National Medal of Science recipients at a black-tie awards ceremony, the evening prior to the official award presentation by the President. Annually given and managed by the NSF for the White House, this award celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.
