Wild Chronicles

Join host Boyd Matson on "Wild Chronicles" each week for stories of danger, survival and curiosity as he looks at the relationships between humans and nature while highlighting breakthrough science and the promise it holds for the future.
"Wild Chronicles" is presented on PBS by National Geographic Society Mission Programs. It aims, to undertake expeditions and scientific investigations; encourage geography education for young people; promote natural, historical and cultural conservation; and inspire the public through vibrant exhibits and live events.
Forty-two episodes are planned for the 2005-06 television season. Segments feature both original reports from the field and updates on exciting discoveries.
Episode #107, features NSF-supported researchers who are studying the health and well-being of some 700 chimpanzees in Tanzania's Mahale Mountains National Park. About 60 of the chimps will tolerate human presence, allowing Virginia Tech's Taranjit Kaur and her graduate student Jason Swenson to observe them from a relatively close distance. Using a hands-off approach, the scientists have observed a mysterious flu-like illness affecting the chimps.
