International Study Provides More Certain Measure of Melting in Polar Ice Sheets

An international group of dozens of climate scientists have reconciled two decades worth of measurements of changes in the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets. The results roughly halve the uncertainty in the measurements. The fate of the ice sheets is a factor in future sea level rise and a major uncertainty in existing climate models. Full Story

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2012, its budget was $7.0 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions.
