Diamond plate with atomic-sized flaws

In this image, the clear wafer at the center of the confocal microscope is a diamond plate with atomic-sized flaws. Green, orange and red lasers excite these flaws to manipulate and measure them, which allows for measuring small magnetic fields at nanometer length scales.
