May 23, 2011
Congress passed, and the president signed into law, a full-year continuing appropriations act that funds federal agencies through September 30, 2011. The final version of H.R. 1473 is the result of a bipartisan agreement reached late in the evening of Friday, April 8, averting by hours a threatened government shutdown. On April 14, the House approved the measure by a vote of 260–167. The Senate voted on the same day, approving the measure by a vote of 81–19, clearing the bill for the White House. The president signed it into law (P.L. 112-10) the following day.
The U.S. National Science Foundation is funded at approximately $6.8 billion for Fiscal Year 2011, a $65 million, or 1%, reduction from the FY 2010 enacted spending level. The FY 2011 figure includes a 0.2% across-the-board rescission applied to all non-defense programs.

1 The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics is the new name for the former Science Resources Statistics as authorized by the "America Competes Reauthorization Act of 2010," P.L. 111-358.
2 The amount of 54.0 million was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard for icebreaking services to cover all anticipated operations and maintenance costs for FY 2011 less the 0.2% rescission, per P.L. 112-10.
