Final Action Completed on Appropriations for FY20

U.S. Capitol

On December 20, the President signed into law the omnibus appropriations bill that funds the federal government for the rest of fiscal year (FY) 2020, which ends on September 30. The House passed the measure by a vote of 230 to 138 on December 17, and the Senate approved December 19 by a 81-to-11 vote.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2020, (Public Law 116-93), Title III covers funding for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other science agencies. The measure provides $8.3 billion for NSF, an increase of $203.33 million, or 2.5 percent, above the FY 2019 appropriation. It provides $6,737 million for the Research and Related Activities (RRA) account; $940 million for the Education and Human Resources (EHR) account; $243 million for the Major Research Equipment and Facilities Construction (MREFC) account; $337 million for the Agency Operations and Award Management (AOAM) account; $5 million for the National Science Board (NSB) account; and $17 million for the Office of Inspector General (OIG) account.
