Dear Colleague Letter

Education and Human Resources Program in the Division of Earth Sciences

Dear Colleague:

This letter is to inform you of the status of the Education and Human Resources Program in the Division of Earth Sciences (E&HR – EAR) at the National Science Foundation. Dr. Lina C. Patino has been named as the program director, effective November 12, 2006. Dr. Patino is committed to working with active components of the Program portfolio (for example, REU sites and active awards) and collaborations with other Programs and Divisions. Dr. Patino has been working closely with education and outreach programs in some of the EAR-funded facilities and she looks forward to continuing with these responsibilities and interacting with similar programs in other EAR funded facilities. With the help of community input, the new E&HR Program Director will focus her attention on drafting a solicitation for the Program that will capitalize on the assets of the EAR Division, PIs and facilities to maximize the outcomes of the E&HR program. The publication of the new solicitation will be advertised through the NSF web site and its alert systems. If you are planning to submit a proposal to the E&HR Program during the transition period between now and October 2007, I urge you to contact Dr. Patino to discuss timing and appropriateness of your proposal.

I hope you join us in welcoming Dr. Patino to her new position and I would encourage you to contact her (Lpatino@nsf.gov) if you have questions or comments regarding the E&HR program in EAR.

Best regards,

Art Goldstein
Acting Division Director, EAR
