Synopsis
The Ocean Sciences program supports foundational research to advance understanding of the present ocean basins and Great Lakes and their role in the Earth System, across all fields of ocean science, including physical, chemical, and biological oceanography; marine ecology; and marine geology and geophysics. The program welcomes proposals that combine these disciplines. It also invites proposals for sustained research into ocean systems.
U.S. Sub-Seafloor Sampling
The program supports a variety of sub-seafloor sampling approaches and tools. Scientific ocean drilling, large-scale collaborations on ocean drilling legacy assets, and technology and instrument development are all within scope. Investigators planning to propose projects that will be implemented by the NSF Scientific Ocean Drilling Coordination Office (SODCO) should coordinate with the office prior to submitting a proposal.
