The Role of Oceanic Processes in the Global Carbon Cycle

Synopsis

The purpose of this Announcement is to invite innovative research proposals to augment the ongoing Synthesis and Modeling Project (SMP) of the U.S. Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (U.S.JGOFS). As part of a multinational oceanographic effort, U.S.JGOFS has as its primary objectives (1) the determination and understanding of processes controlling the biogeochemical cycling of carbon in the ocean and (2) the prediction of response of marine biogeochemical processes to climate change. Now in its fifth year, the SMP is focussed on the resolution of major unanswered questions during the course of U.S.JGOFS and related activities and on the modeling of the global ocean carbon cycle.
