Jonathan "Mike" Prince joins OPP as the Antarctic Research Vessel Program Manager
The Office of Polar Programs (OPP) Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics Section is excited to welcome Mr. Jonathan "Mike" Prince as the Antarctic Research Vessel (ARV) Project Manager. In this position, Mr. Prince is responsible for providing technical guidance and direct engagement on overall project development, design, planned construction, and delivery of the Antarctic Research Vessel, a major Office of Polar Programs MREFC initiative. Mr. Prince coordinates with contract personnel, vessel support groups, other sections in OPP, as well as other programs throughout NSF to achieve the project goals.
Mr. Prince is currently employed at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, San José State University, and San José State University Research Foundation (SJSURF). He is a former Coast Guard officer, research vessel captain, Marine Superintendent, and Executive Secretary of the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS). Mike served as the Office of Naval Research Research Facilities Officer for the Ocean Class research vessels from 2009 to 2013 and more recently provided oversight of the final post-delivery Research Vessel (R/V) Sally Ride and R/V Neil Armstrong. He brings a wealth of experience in the design, construction, and successful delivery of modern oceanographic research vessels, and OPP is thrilled to have him join the team.
