The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (NSF MPS) has published five new funding opportunities supporting foundational research in astronomical sciences, chemistry, materials research, mathematical sciences and physics.

The five funding opportunities collectively span more than 40 research programs supported by NSF MPS. Each funding opportunity includes multiple foundational research programs grouped as follows:

Researchers who are considering submitting a proposal and have questions should email the relevant program contacts listed in each funding opportunity.

These funding opportunities do not have proposal deadlines. Proposals are accepted by NSF anytime, although some programs have recommended target dates. More information is contained in each funding opportunity, including links to more detailed program-specific information.

These funding opportunities do not include center-scale programs supported by MPS, such as the NSF Centers for Chemical Innovation, the NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Centers, the NSF Mathematical Sciences Research Institutes and the NSF Physics Frontiers Centers. Those programs and others are MPS-supported through targeted funding opportunities.
