Updates and Changes

  • GRFP no longer participates in the NSF INTERN program.
  • Fellows may request retroactive Medical Leave under limited conditions.

Internships

GRFP no longer participates in the NSF INTERN program. Fellows can participate in INTERN through any other active NSF award to which they have access. Learn more about the NSF INTERN program. All queries about INTERN should be directed to NSF-INTERN@nsf.gov.

Retroactive Medical Leave

Fellows may request retroactive medical leave under limited conditions:

  1. Approved by their institution of higher education (IHE).
  2. Within the current or immediately preceding Fellowship years. For example, for the 2026-27 Fellowship year, a Fellow could request retroactive medical leave during the 2025-26 and 2026-27 Fellowship years.

Updates to the GRFP Administrative Guide apply to all Active Fellows regardless of Fellowship Status, and to all Awardee Institutions.
