NSF statement on White House Framework for Responsible Development of Digital Assets

Statement from Margaret Martonosi, assistant director, Computer and Information Science & Engineering:

“We look forward to collaborating with the Office of Science and Technology Policy and other federal agencies to create a national strategy for research and development to advance digital assets. And, importantly, NSF will support not just the technical underpinnings of digital assets, but also consider the technical, socio-technical and behavioral economics research to ensure that diverse groups are able to use and access digital assets in a secure, inclusive and equitable manner.”

Statement from Erwin Gianchandani, assistant director, Technology, Innovation and Partnerships:

“NSF research will jump-start the full spectrum of foundational to use-inspired to translational research into topics like next-generation cryptography, transaction programmability, cybersecurity and privacy protections, and ways to mitigate the environmental impacts of digital assets.”
