NSF launches AI and cybersecurity education solicitation, enhancing longstanding Scholarship for Service program
The U.S. National Science Foundation launched a new solicitation on artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity education and workforce development as part of the CyberAICorps Scholarship for Service (CyberAI SFS) program. CyberAI SFS is the new name of the CyberCorps® SFS program and builds on its success by integrating AI into cybersecurity operations and the security and resilience of AI systems.
"Since 2001, the SFS program has helped recruit, train and grow generations of cybersecurity professionals equipped to address the nation’s new and evolving cyberthreats,” said Sylvia Butterfield, head of STEM Education at NSF. "And keeping pace with emerging technologies, CyberAI SFS will continue this longstanding tradition by supporting and growing an adaptive AI workforce."
The CyberAI SFS solicitation includes two tracks:
- The Scholarship Track provides funding to establish or continue SFS programs with integrated AI and cybersecurity components.
- The Innovation Track supports projects that enhance preparation of AI and/or cybersecurity professionals.
CyberAI SFS will support up to 25 projects per fiscal year, helping the U.S. educational system train more AI and cybersecurity experts. Maximum award amounts are $2.5 million for the Scholarship Track and $500,000 for the Innovation Track.
For more than 25 years, NSF has invested in research and workforce development to strengthen national security in today's highly connected, digital world, and will continue to do so through the CyberAI SFS program.
