Jim Coleman is a professor and graduate program director in the Department of Biology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is a plant physiological ecologist with expertise in organismal and ecosystem science. He has over 25 years of experience as a senior administrator in higher education, including former vice president for research, provost, dean and state NSF EPSCoR director dedicated to the transformational mission of higher education, improving academic institutions and building statewide STEM infrastructure. He is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is recognized as a distinguished alumnus of Yale University's School of the Environment. Coleman has a bachelor's degree in forestry (concentration in forest pathology) with the highest distinction from the University of Maine (1982). He graduated from Yale University's School of Forestry and Environmental Studies with Master of Science and Master of Philosophy degrees in 1985 and then with a doctorate in 1987.
