Dr. Siân Mooney is a professor and the dean of the top-ranked O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University (IU) and a National Academy of Public Administration fellow. She has worked on complex, multidisciplinary issues that affect the environment, natural resources and society. In particular, her work has focused on the design of policies and measurement protocols for greenhouse gas mitigation, nature-based solutions for climate change, endangered species habitat protection and the potential effects of a changing climate on water provision and agricultural producer behavior in the western United States.
Mooney's work has been funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. National Science Foundation, among others. She has served as an NSF program officer and as an NSF representative on the Carbon Cycle Interagency Task Force and Social Science Task Force of the U.S. Global Change Research Program. She currently serves as a member of the EPA-"Clean Air Act" advisory committee, the Government Accountability Office educators advisory panel, the IU Ostrom Workshop advisory committee, Climate Action Planning committee and the Center of Excellence for Women and Technology and the board of advisors for the Center for Organization Research and Design at Arizona State University. She is also an active member of professional organizations such as the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management, National Academy of Public Administration, Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, and Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration.
She has a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the University of Wales, a master's degree in agricultural economics and farm management from the University of Manitoba, and a doctoral degree in agricultural and resource economics from Oregon State University.
