The Office of Research Infrastructure (ORI) is responsible for the oversight of major facilities and mid-scale research infrastructure funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation. The office has two branches:
Research Infrastructure:
- Leads oversight of major facilities and mid-scale research infrastructure in design, construction, operations, and disposition stages of the research infrastructure life cycle.
- Collaborates with NSF's research directorates to ensure infrastructure supports the highest priority science needs.
- Leads coordination with internal and external stakeholders regarding major and mid-scale research infrastructure.
Mission Assurance:
- Serves as the agency's primary resource for policies and procedures related to major facilities and mid-scale research infrastructure.
- Provides expert assistance with the technical aspects of project planning, management, budgeting and oversight for major facilities and mid-scale research infrastructure.
- Assesses construction projects for cost and schedule risk.
The office is led by the NSF chief officer for research facilities.
