Office of Award Management (OAM)

The Office of Award Management (OAM) ensures accountable, efficient stewardship of U.S. National Science Foundation financial assistance. The office's work spans the entire award lifecycle — from policy development and proposal assessment to award issuance, post-award oversight and agency performance and evidence-building. OAM partners with programs, institutions and stakeholders to ensure efficient use of taxpayer funds and enable impactful science and engineering research. The office:

  • Develops and publishes NSF proposal and award policies and performs pre-award financial and compliance reviews.
  • Issues grants and cooperative agreements and provides post-award oversight, including monitoring, audits and targeted compliance reviews.
  • Oversees NSF major facilities and mid‑scale research infrastructure portfolios and manages NSF award management systems.
  • Leads agency performance management and evidence-building efforts, including the Strategic Plan, Annual Performance Plan/Report, Annual Evaluation Plan, Agency Priority Goals and activities supporting the President's Management Agenda.
