Funding opportunities
Undergraduate opportunities
NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) sites
Supports intensive research by undergraduate students in any NSF-funded area of science. NSF REU sites in biology engage cohorts of students in research projects related to any biological sciences theme.
Graduate student opportunities
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)
Supports outstanding graduate students who have demonstrated the potential to be high-achieving scientists and engineers. Applicants must be pursuing full-time research-based master's and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or STEM education at accredited U.S. institutions.
Postdoctoral opportunities
NSF Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Biology (NSF PRFB)
Supports postdoctoral fellowships that train early-career scientists to apply artificial intelligence to biological research, advancing biotechnology innovation while preparing future leaders at the intersection of AI and biology.
Faculty opportunities
NSF Faculty Early Career Development Program (NSF CAREER)
NSF's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.
NSF Mid-Career Advancement (NSF MCA)
Supports mid-career researchers, at the associate professor rank (or equivalent), to substantively enhance and advance their research program through synergistic partnerships.
